What Pulse Is

Synchronicity, Carl Jung's word for a meaningful coincidence, is the idea behind Pulse: what you want tonight meeting what is actually happening right now. Pulse is a live map of happy hours and specials, kept honest by scouts who confirm them in person. No algorithm decides what you see, and no one pays to change it.

Why I Built Pulse

I love a good happy hour, at home and on the road. I travel a lot for my day job, and my girlfriend and I are always out trying new spots, locally and wherever we land.

The hard part was never the drinks. It's finding the deals and knowing they're real. They hide in reviews, an Instagram story, the bottom of a website, or on a chalkboard or paper menu that only the regulars have seen.

Pulse puts them in one place, checked by people who were actually there, so it's easier to find and share great deals in any city or town, and to send business to the small places that run them.

In honor of my brother, Greg, Pulse is also about finding a great deal among fans who cheer for the same teams you do.

And it's about more than the next new spot. When I travel, I keep going back to the same places, get to know the regulars, and end up a regular myself, learning the area the way locals do. Pulse is for finding your spot and your people, as much as somewhere new.

What We Stand For

  • Real people, really there

Every account is a real person. We never create fake scouts, fake check-ins or fake activity, under any label. A deal goes live because people standing in the venue confirmed it.

  • Nobody can buy the truth

No venue or brand can pay for trust, a verification, a ranking or a place on the map. If we ever show something a venue paid for, it will say so and who paid.

  • We reward scouting, not drinking

Nothing you earn depends on what you order. Reading the menu board is enough; no purchase is ever required, and nothing rewards rushing from bar to bar.

  • Every source is labeled

Schedules our AI found on a venue's website are marked as such until a scout confirms them. You always know whether a fact came from a scout, the venue or a website.

  • Your location stays yours

We keep a coarse map cell, never your GPS trail. Other scouts see your scout name only, and venues see counts and times, never who you are.

XP and Trust

Scouts earn two things. XP measures effort; trust measures accuracy, and it decides how much your confirmations count.

XP · EFFORT

  • Confirm a deal on site: +25 XP, once per venue per night (shared with price checks)
  • Add a happy hour on site: +50 XP, plus +25 XP on your first
  • From a distance, confirming or adding still helps scouts decide, but only on-site contributions earn XP.
  • The weekly board resets Thursday at 4 AM Central, so every weekend is a fresh race.
  • XP never goes down.

TRUST · ACCURACY

  • Trust runs from 0 to 100. Everyone starts at 10 and can reach 90.
  • Each on-site confirmation raises it; the closer you are to the top, the smaller each step.
  • Confirming from a distance counts 20% of an on-site one, toward the deal and your trust.
  • A photo or vibe tag with your check-in gives a bigger boost.
  • Trust drops when a check-in fails because you weren't at the venue, or when you flag a deal the community then confirms is still running.
  • Trust never fades just because you took a break.

Leaderboards

The Leaders tab shows who's scouting this week. Leaderboards are for signed-in Scouts only.

  • All of Pulse: this week's and all-time XP.
  • Local boards by ZIP code(rolling out): each on-site confirmation or price check at a venue counts on that venue's ZIP board, at most once per venue per night. You're on every ZIP board where you scouted that week.
  • Boards update once a day, after the night closes at 4 AM, so they never show who's out right now.
  • Names appear only once a board has enough Scouts. Until then you see your own rank and how many Scouts are on it.
  • Boards show screen names and points, never times or which venues you visited.
  • Don't want your name shown? Turn off “Show my name on leaderboards” on the Leaders page. You still count; you just don't appear.
  • Venue owners and the Pulse Team don't appear on boards.

Scout Tiers

Tiers follow your trust, not your XP: XP rewards effort, trust rewards accuracy. Higher tiers carry more weight when the community decides what's live.

How It Works

  1. 1
DiscoverFind pulsing hexes on the map, or search a day and time ahead
  2. 2
Check inStep within about 50 m and Pulse checks you in, no tap needed
  3. 3
ConfirmSay whether the deal is really running; add a photo or vibe tag for a bigger trust boost
  4. 4
GrowEarn XP for every contribution and trust for accurate, on-site ones

A new deal goes live once scouts on site confirm it. After that, a deal with a known weekly schedule stays on the map until the community flags it as wrong; a deal without a schedule needs a fresh confirmation each day.

FOR VENUES

Run a bar or restaurant? Claim your venue to keep your happy hour current. Scouts still confirm it, and nothing you pay for can change what they report. See how Pulse works for venues →

Our Pledge

No ads. No fake activity. No paid influence over what the map says. We never sell your personal data. The map you see is what scouts found, labeled with where every fact came from.
